We all know and love Laverne Cox for her role in the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black, but there’s a lot more about the actress that we also enjoy. For example, she’s the first openly transgender actress in Hollywood to hear her name called for an Emmy nomination. Laverne Cox is a force with which to be reckoned, and she’s not going to stop. We don’t know if she’s always wanted to be an actress, but she’s also so much more. She’s an advocate for the LGBT community, and she’s also someone who has worked her butt off to get where she is in her career. She didn’t just start at the top and it’s been a long road for the actress, who has been in the business since 2000 but didn’t get her big break until the late 2000s when she was a part of Diddy’s reality show. If you didn’t know that, there are a few other things you might not know about the fabulous Laverne Cox.
She’s a Music Video Star
She was recently cast in a John Legend music video in which she portrayed a stellar character. It’s the first time she’s done this, and we like to think it worked out nicely for her. She did a great job taking on the challenge.
She Plays a Transgender Character
Transgender characters are few and far between, but that’s precisely what her character is on her hit television show. She plays Sophia, the character sent to jail for credit card fraud. It’s a great character and she plays it to perfection.
She’s Southern
Many people are unaware of the fact that she is from the deep and dirty south. In fact, she’s from Alabama. And not just any location in Alabama, she’s from good ole’ Mobile.
