It turns out that Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk Facebook show was inspired by three very special people. The actress was in attendance at the Maker’s Conference and chatted with ET while there.
During the interview, Jada described the event as a place where ‘women come together and discuss issues that are really important to us.’
That is also where she revealed that her Facebook Watch series was inspired by a few fellow actresses.
‘There were 3 women that were courageous enough to be super transparent with me. Ruby Dee, Pauletta Washington, and Salma Hayek. Three,’ she said referring to conversations she had prior to Red Table Talk becoming an actual thing.
She went on to explain that ‘They were so transparent with me and gave and so raw that those 3 conversations pretty much changed the trajectory of my life. And then I was like, ‘Why don’t we have more convos like this? Like, if I had had this conversation earlier, I would have done something different. Like, why are we not talking in a way in which [we are] sharing and offering ourselves?’
The star wanted to use those conversations and the lessons learned from them as a way to help each other and the audience, grow.
Jada explained to the outlet that she felt like holding all those personal experiences to one’s self was not doing anyone any service, while if people opened up, many would start realizing that everyone goes through such things and not feel so alone or different.
